The interior surface of a thermos bottle is coated with a thin film of shiny aluminum. How does the aluminum coating help preserve the temperature of the hot and cold drinks?

As answered previously, the shiny coating reflect thermal radiation back to the bottle, but also an outer coating of a high specific heat substance should be used to prevent heat transfer due to conduction.

What happens when you use a aluminum pot with Rit color remover?

The box of color remover says to use a porcelain or stainless steel pot, but not aluminum or non-stick. What will happen if I use an aluminum pot? The chemicals seem to be pretty strong, so I’m afraid it will react with the aluminum or something. Is it safe?

I don’t remember the exact chemicals, but I think it gives off toxic gases. Don’t use the aluminum pot, or a porcelain pot with chips in the enamel.

The bad news is, it will not be safe to use the pot for food afterwards. Try looking for a stainless steel stockpot or spaghetti pot at a thrift store, or you’ll end up spending more on the pot than on the garment you’re trying to fix.

How NOT to Pour Aluminum Metal

A little mishap while pouring aluminum metal into a cold ingot. So this had happened, which rarely does, maybe 1/1000 times at lab.

Always wear proper safety equipment! Like don’t do what I did and not wear a face shield, I was lucky enough not to get the metal popped on my face. Thank God.

How to clean high polished aluminum wheels?

Posted by admin on May 7th, 2010 and filed under aluminum | 1 Comment »

I have high polished aluminum wheels that are in bad shape, may have been damaged by acid from wheel cleaners.Does anyone have any experience with cleaning them?If so what products do you recomend?Have you seen the aluminum deoxidizer from California Custom Products that uses acid to clean aluminum wheels? These are not factory clear coated wheels.

i recommend Mothers billet wheel polish. If they are in bad shape you will need to polish them a few times. Also to get the highest quality polish use a power ball polisher then seal them with a zoop sealer. Zoop is expensive but it protects it polish for a year so you don’t have to repolish them every week
