for my science homework i need to know how to prevent cadmium from hurting the enviornment. also lead if you get the chance.
Cadium:
cadmium affect the enviornment such as water, air and soil. here is a good web site.
Lead:
Lead released into the environment makes its way into the air, soils, and water. Lead can remain in the environment as dust indefinitely. The lead in fuels contribute to air pollution, especially in urban areas. Soils near highways, freeways, and smelting facilities have higher levels of lead than soils in other areas because of their exposure to lead dust, which accumulates over time. Plants exposed to lead can absorb the metal dust through their leaves. Plants can also take up minimal amounts of lead from the soil. Other ways lead can enter the environment are through mining practices, steel industry, crop enhancers, improperly disposed of batteries, or improperly stored metal parts such as machinery that can break and leave pieces or shavings which may leech into the environment.
I have some Nickel Cadmium Batteries, each one has 2 cells . They are aproximately 15" x 6" x 8", I guess they weigh about 10 kg each. It says the brand name is NIFE. I’m on a 12v solar power system for my home and need to know how many of these Nickel Cadmium batteries I need to replace my dying leadacid battery bank. At the moment a multimeter puts them between 2.4v and 2.8v per cell, but I don’t know their present state of charge
I hope you mean 2.4 volts per battery, which is 2 cells. This puts the cell voltage at 1.2 volts, about right for Ni-Cd.
2,4 volts per cell doesn’t make sense.
Wal-Mart says it pulled children’s jewelry items cited in an Associated Press report on cadmium contamination. The AP reported that some Chinese manufacturers have been using cadmium in place of lead in children’s charm bracelets and pendants. (Jan. 11)

My device requires 9V rechargeable Nickel-Cadmium batteries.
I bought brand new regular non-rechargeable batteries and it won’t work at all.
Because regular batteries are alkaline, not Ni-Cad
Experiment #75 – Nickel Cadmium Rechargeable Battery

Why is cadmium plating used? What is so special about cadmium? in the aerospace industry..
It is a very durable, rust free protective coating with high lubricity for accurate torque readings when used on fasteners.
It is very durable in the face or harsh environments, heat, cold salt water etc.
Please write the reactions for the discharge and charge of a nickel-cadmium rechargeable battery.
Discharge:
Cd (s) + OH- (aq) —–> Cd(OH)2 (s) + 2e-
2Ni(OH)3 (aq) + 2e- ——-> 2Ni(OH)2 (s) + 2OH- (aq)
Recharge:
2Ni(OH)2 (s) + 2OH- (aq) ——-> 2Ni(OH)3 (s) + 2e-
Cd(OH)2 (s) + 2e- —-> Cd (s) + 2OH- (aq)

I’m writing a paper on Cadmium Iodide and general info about it. I would appreciate any help I can get. I need to know how it is made and some important applications of it, most importantly. Also need projections of it, info on its structure and unit cell, but I think I have a general idea for those. JUST THE FIRST TWO QUESTIONS WOULD SUFFICE. Thanks.
Cadmium iodide’s crystal structure is the prototype on which the crystal structures many other compounds can be considered to be based. Compounds with any of the following characteristics tend to adopt the CdI2 structure:
Iodides of moderately polarising cations; bromides and chlorides of strongly polarising cations
Hydroxides of dications, i.e. compounds with the general formula M(OH)2
Sulfides, selenides and tellurides (chalcogenides) of tetracations, i.e. compounds with the general formula MX2, where X = S, Se, Te
